Decision making is hard. And yet, can be so easy.

Many times in my life I have been paralyzed by indecision. I have always struggled to make the pro/con analysis work for me. I can always think of a boatload of pro reasons and a truckful of con reasons. Brain on hyperdrive.

So last year, when I was at an impasse about where I wanted to live, I threw the pro/con analysis to the curb in favor of experimenting with iFeelio.

One night, lying in bed, I felt very stressed about where to live. Would I stay in Boulder? Move back to Detroit? Or perhaps venture to Oakland? I took out iFeelio, and this time, instead of documenting how I was feeling in regards to what was happening, I used it to test how I would react to various things that could happen.

WITA

So what I did was this:

1) Wrote into the happening box, “When I think about…” (abbreviated WITA) and then followed it with “…staying in Boulder for 5 years.”

2) Read outloud what I had just wrote.

3) Observed how my body reacted and wrote those emotions in the feeling box.

4) Repeated 1-3 for “…moving to Detroit,” “…moving to Oakland,” and other possibilities.

5) Compared my answers.

What I found was that when I had thought about staying in Boulder, I felt suffocated. When I had thought about moving to Detroit, I felt unprepared and a little slow. When I had thought about moving to Oakland, I felt alive, excited, and motivated. So I moved to Oakland.

My body had known what I wanted to do and by paying attention to it, I saved my head a tremendous amount of strife and labor.

So try it

Try the WITA method. Or something else. Or maybe you already are.

How are you using iFeelio in a creative way to help you?
